Comparison of 3 Marketing Experts

Michael Senger – StoneMass LLC

Senger had several good points regarding social media and life. The main topic he described and wanted people to understand was the difference in mentality between a wolf and a dog. This can be applied in work, especially regarding using social media, but also as a life concept as well. A wolf mentality will allow you to make more of a difference in life and as well in using social media.  The example that he told me is that it is a daily decision and mindset to choose to be have a wolf mentality. For example, in his business, he can choose to constantly be innovative and search for the next best idea and make it happen, or ease up and risk having people catch up or overtake him. He has to constantly make the decision to keep pressing forward, even if he doesn’t want too. That goes for everyone in their work and personal life; that is what will separate you from the masses and have people listen to you.

He also taught that social media is not just Twitter and Facebook, but the combination and integration of those tools plus many others such as: Youtube, LinkedIn, Blogs, etc. The purpose is to engage and connect with people. This can be personally but also for a company, idea or group, etc. Integrated together social media can have a powerful impact on uniting people together.

Pete Cashmore (@mashable) – over 2,000,000 followers on Twitter

Mashable is a social media, digital, business, etc, news website (www.mashable.com), where Pete Cashmore is the founder and CEO. They are several staff members that are dedicated to bringing news fast. Because of this, they have one of the most engaged online news communities. They have millions of monthly page viewers that are also connected to top news publications in the USA. However, although they have a mass following, they always make sure that they report on the importance of digital innovation and how it empowers and inspires people around the world.

Cashmore started Mashable and was able to realize his dream of growing the company into one of the top online resources for technology, social media, business because he had a “passion for sharing how web tools and social networks were transforming human interactions and reshaping cultures”.

From following @mashable and Cashmore’s twitter feed for several months now, one can tell that he very much respects people’s time and their right to know news as it comes. He is very up to date with all his tweet outs and accurate with the reports and articles that he releases and shares. For Mashable to stay on top they must continue to have a “wolf” mentality and make sure that everything they send out on Twitter and on their website to be credible and insightful to their audiences. Plus, they must be continuously be improving and innovative how they send out their media into the future.

Jeff Bullus (@jeffbullus) – over 72,000 followers on Twitter

Bullus has been successful as a consultant and speaker, as well as has worked with companies and executives to “optimize their online personal and company presence and brand with digital marketing and social media”. The purpose of his blog is to inform his viewers about everything that is connected with social media and online marketing. Also, another focus of the blog is to assist businesses and individuals in getting “noticed” in the digital world in order for them to become successful.

Bullus has much credibility, education and experience that allows him to be heard and taken seriously by many people. However, what he believes is most important, and also the primary focus of his blog is to help businesses and people engage with each other in conversations that build trust and relationships.

Bullus has been seeking out ways to break through the barriers of noise and clutter of mainstream marketing in hopes to better engage and communicate effectively with other people. He has determined that such concepts as Permission Marketing, Inbound Marketing and Relationship Marketing allow for a much cost effective and beneficial way for marketing in today’s culture.

All three of these Social Media “experts” share the thoughts of the importance that social and digital media plays in the engagement and connection between people on line. It can foster a great learning environment. However, in order to stay ahead of the game and to keep your credibility, it is of the upmost importance to be innovative and take risks; in other words… to have a “wolf” mindset.
